lyrics

Dancer’s Hand

She wakes the morning after
To find there’s been no disaster
She’s right where she left off

She spreads the morning paper
To find there’s been no new caper now
It’s the same old, same old

She waits on the step
At the Indian restaurant
They all pass her by
As she makes up their stories one by one

Back home
There’s no one there but the cat
Who stares out the windowpane
His head turns to watch the train
Gone gone gone gone

She says, “hey!”
But no one answers
In her mind she takes up the dancer’s hand
And spins by the bandstand

The lights up above
Fall on her like the stars
The song that she hears
It goes on and on and on and on

She wakes the morning after
To find there’s been no disaster
